Using the wheels in the trailed position on an ATV flail mower can be safe, but it depends on several factors. The safety largely hinges on the quad bike vehicle, the terrain, and the operator’s driving. Keep in mind that this position adds significant “nose” weight to the ball hitch, which increases the load on the towing vehicle.
Both Chapman and Wessex build high-quality ATV quad flail mowers with some differences. Chapman mowers use Honda engines, while Wessex uses Briggs and Stratton engines—both are excellent choices. Chapman ATV flail mowers are all electric start with an on-board battery, requiring regular charging. Wessex AFX and AFR models are electric start and wired to the towing vehicle, while AFE models feature a recoil start with a smaller engine and a decompression start system for easy starting.
